LIHU‘E — The condition of the economy now “is all a blessing,” said state Rep. Roland Sagum, D-Waimea-Ni‘ihau.
Like the hurricanes that hit Kaua‘i saw the community join hands in a harmonious rebuilding effort, the current stagnant economy is “actually bringing the community together, causing citizens to be more creative, responsible with spending,” Sagum said outside the State Office Building recently.
“That’s all good,” he said, adding that balancing the state budget shouldn’t fall on the backs of students and state workers.
“You gotta look at this thing comprehensively. I’m a citizen before I’m a legislator,” said Sagum.
“State government is a broken business. The cycle is huge,” said Sagum, adding that he is raising his children (“managing” was the word he used) in order to “minimize societal impacts.”
