Kapa‘a High School boys missed first place by 10 pins, but with three first finishes compared to the one by Kaua‘i and Waimea, locked up the boys’ title.
Ammon Hoopi‘i-Akau rolled his season-best 185 to help the Raider boys roll a 2146 pinfall for first place over Kapa‘a’s 2136. Waimea followed with a 1977 pinfall and Island School rounded out the field on a 1508 showing.
In its win, Kaua‘i’s boys rolled a 677 Game 1 to Kapa‘a’s 662, led by Brad Russell’s 156 for second place.
Ho‘opi‘i-Akau came up with his season-best 185 in Game 2 to lead the Raider men to an 842 total to Kapa‘a’s 791, led by Randy Iloreta Jr.’s 188, his season-best game.
Kapa‘a’s Troy Wong took the lead in Game 3 with a 177 as Kapa‘a took Game 3 683 to Kaua‘i’s 627, again led by Ho‘opi‘i-Akau rolling a 175.
Waimea’s Nelson Acosta rolled a 172 to lead the Menehune boys to a 709 first place in Game 1, but Acosta’s 153 lead saw Waimea slide to third in Game 2 with a 615 total. Wesley Sakamoto, rolling a 160 in Game 1, upped his game to a 165 in Game 3 for a 653 Waimea total for second place in the third match.
Kyle Lee (132, 152, 128), Jayke Manzano (83, 133, 91), Jayson Manzano (122, 152, 143) and Daniel Miller (101, 126, 145) represented Island School boys.
Iloreta holds the individual average with a 172.33 average over nine games followed by Dominic Palabay of Waimea holding a 170.67 average over nine games. Tabata of Kaua‘i is fifth in the averages with a 163.44 average over nine games.
Kaua‘i girls rolled a 1935 pinfall over Kapa‘a’s 1903 with Waimea following at 1819 and Island School’s three girls rolling an 878 pinfall.
Sherri Cubangbang, leading the girls individual averages with a 171.11 over nine games, finished with rolls of 143, 175 and 132 in leading Kaua‘i girls’ win.
She was joined by Kelsey Cadiente (123, 132, 133) and Alisa Padasdao (113, 108, 162), her Game 3 total of 162 being her season best score.
Joanna Chang (139, 167, 156) paced the Warrior wahine followed by Reggie McCabe (137, 151, 100) who got her season-best showing in Game 2 at 151.
Ta‘ashi Napoleon (120, 113, 120) and Kira Nakamura (101, 122, 103) rounded out the Kapa‘a leaderboard.
Bronte Acosta (149, 134, 134) paced the Waimea showing followed by Lacie Montemayor (126, 125, 140) and Arlene Valmoja (93, 177, 116).
Megan Perius led the Island School trio with rolls of 119, 108 and 130 followed by Christy Mayfield (90, 83, 136) rolling her season-best 136 in Game 3, and Samantha Barry (81, 55, 76).
The final KIF Bowling matches return to the Lihu‘e Bowling Center on Oct. 17 starting at 2 p.m.
