PO‘IPU — Sheraton Hotels and Resorts is giving away thousands of free rooms for one night at 86 of its North American properties, Oct. 23.
The rooms are being given away to celebrate the completion of the Sheraton’s multi-billion global revitalization effort, states a release from the Starwood Hotels and Resorts.
Consumers can visit www.sheraton.com/freenight starting today through Friday to register for a chance to book a free room on Oct. 23 at new and newly-renovated flagship hotels including the Sheraton Kaua‘i, Sheraton Waikiki, Sheraton Boston, Sheraton Dallas and Sheraton Phoenix Downtown.
Candice Kraughto, director of Public Relations for Starwood, said consumers will receive a confirmation if they win a free night’s stay.
She added that in Hawai‘i, the Sheraton Waikiki — which will complete a major renovation, including the completion of its new infinity edge pool, in December — and the Sheraton Kaua‘i are the participating resorts.
Angela Vento, general manager of the Sheraton Kaua‘i, said the renovations at the Po‘ipu resort included the construction and dedication of the Link@Sheraton, a computer station for the resort’s guests, earlier this year.
Toni Keahiolalo of the Sheraton Kaua‘i sales department said in addition to the Link@Sheraton, the resort is now offering new bedding, the Sheraton Sweet Sleeper, a feature that was touted during a recent television show with Chef Chai Chaowasaree on KHON Channel 2.
Owen Hoff, director of front office for the Sheraton Kaua‘i, said even if the Link@Sheraton’s dedication was done earlier this year, exciting things are still taking place in the computer station that allows the resort’s guests a variety of computer services beyond checking e-mail and Internet connection.
“Guests staying at the Sheraton Kaua‘i, and using the Link@Sheraton, are able to get a preview of Microsoft’s Windows 7,” Hoff said. “This is made possible through an agreement with Starwood and Microsoft.”
Hoff said the world launch of the operating system is scheduled for around Nov. 1, but through the agreement, the resort’s Link computers had Windows 7 installed about a month ago.
“This allows visitors to go on vacation and experience a brand-new operating system,” Hoff said.
As part of a three-year global overhaul, Sheraton has invested more than $4 billion in new hotels, renovations and signature brand initiatives in North America and another $2 billion in new hotels overseas.
Some of the highlights of this effort include 70,000 new or newly renovated guestrooms. Of these, 50,000 are in North America.
More than 300 new lobbies feature the Sheraton brand’s innovative Link@Sheraton experience with Microsoft.
More than 100,000 new Sheraton Sweet Sleeper all-white high thread count beds in 211 hotels and 83,000 guestrooms around the world.
Ninety-eight, or almost half, of Sheraton’s North American properties were renovated.
Sheraton, a key focus for Starwood, touts more than 400 hotels in 70 countries. Sheraton has opened 57 new hotels worldwide since 2007 with 10 more scheduled to open by the end of the year.
Additionally, Sheraton has removed more than 38 hotels worldwide, including 24 in North America that could not meet the brand’s new standards. Another four will exit the brand by the end of the year.
“We have spent the last few years renovating and rebuilding one of the hotel industry’s most iconic brands and as the economy begins to recover, Sheraton is in an enviable position, poised to come out of the gate fast and leverage our new flagship hotels, renovated properties and signature brand offerings,” said Frits van Paasschen, Starwood CEO, in the release. “When travelers return to the road en masse, Sheraton will be ready.”
