LIHU‘E — There isn’t much doubt from his Kaua‘i friends that Richard Diamond of Wailua Homesteads can feel the love and aloha from this island all the way to his hospital bed at Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu.
Diamond was involved in a one-car accident on Olohena Road in Wailua Homesteads Sunday night which left his car totaled and him with multiple broken ribs and sternum and bruised lungs, according to an e-mail from some of his close friends.
He was medevaced to Honolulu early Monday morning, and remains in stable condition, longing to return home to his own bed, possibly next week, friends said.
Surgery was not required, they said.
And while his popular Kaua‘i Museletter is not yet again written by Diamond (real name Richard Moll), his friends have kept it going.
A fund is expected to be set up soon to help Diamond with expenses such as interisland airfare and medical bills.
“Thank you to all of you who sent beautiful e-mails and heart-felt messages, and for the spontaneous gatherings sending prayers, love, healing light and being the ‘ohana,” his friends said in an e-mail.
“Words of gratitude simply do not express how deeply your sharing, caring and love have touched him.”
Also, prayer hikes up his beloved Sleeping Giant (Nounou Mountain; Diamond calls it “Asha” and considers it sacred) have been organized for Saturday, at 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m., from the Kuamo‘o Road trail head, his friends said.
His friends said they “think it would be great and appropriate to all hike it as a way of prayer and blessings for healing and a speedy recovery” of Diamond, they said in an e-mail.
More information about the hikes is available by calling John Stern, 631-8424, or e-mailing him at jstern1028@yahoo.com.
Finally, anyone interested may send Diamond an e-mail though the Queen’s Web site, www.queens.org, by opening the e-mail to patient form and typing away. Diamond is in Room 845, under his real name, Richard Moll.
Type the message and send it. Queen’s workers will print it out and deliver it to him, friends said.
