St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
Blessing of the animals means every species: dogs, cats, fish, geckos, horses, guinea pigs, rabbits, you name it. All are welcome. There will be a short service of music, prayer and blessing in thanksgiving for our pets. Enjoy veggie hot-dogs, drinks, dog bones, carrots, catnip, etc. Meet under the Monkey Pod tree behind St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the corner of Aukuu and Kiowea in Kekaha.
All Angels Animal Blessing
4:30 p.m. Sunday
St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church
The blessing is always held on the Sunday closest to St. Francis Day. St. Francis was known for his deep love and appreciation for all creation, particularly the animal world. The Animal Blessing Service includes special prayers for animals, their stewards and animal care-givers, the hymn “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” a performance by the All Angels Children’s Choir under the direction of Hank Curtis, and an opportunity for each animal to come to the front of the altar to receive a personal blessing prayer from Father William Miller.
The blessing service will last only thirty minutes and will be followed by an outdoor reception from 5 to 6 p.m. The reception includes hot deity dogs (hot dogs), music from island favorite John Gilleran and a small petting zoo for children. All are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets for the reception.
All animals must be on leash or in a carrier. The blessing is free and open to the public. St. Michael’s is located at the corner of Umi and Hardy Streets right next to the Lihu‘e Public Library and across from Wilcox School. For more information call, 245-3796 or visit stmichaels-kauai.org.
Blessing of the Animals
10 a.m. Saturday
Hanapepe United Church
of Christ
Join a growing Christian tradition by bringing your pet to the church lawn. The blessing recognizes the unique bond between humans and their pets. Pets can provide companionship to a lonely heart, love to a lost soul and joy to a sorrowful spirit. Pets can elevate the human spirit to become more compassionate and caring, in the likeness of Christ. The service will be held outside so no pet is too large or too small. Pets must be leashed. In addition to the blessing, there will be a parade of pets and some surprises.
