Attends workshop in Japan
Twenty filmmakers, 10 from Japan and 10 from other countries, were selected to attend a special samurai filmmaking workshop at Kyoto Filmmakers’ Lab from Sept. 26 through Oct. 1. Kaua‘i filmmaker Aaron Yamasato was one of three Hawai‘i filmmakers chosen.
The Kyoto Filmmakers’ Lab was a five day workshop allowing the selected filmmakers to delve into the art of samurai filmmaking, known as Jidaigeki, at two of the most popular samurai film studios, Toei Studios and the Shochiku studios. The participants made short films, worked on screenwriting and were given the opportunity to work with top samurai filmmakers in the industry. At the end of the event, selected short films were sent to the Berlin Film Festival in 2010.
