HANAPEPE — The first children’s book to be published in Hawai‘i about Barack Obama, entitled “A President from Hawai‘i” will represent the state at this year’s National Book Festival in Washington D.C. The National Book Festival, sponsored by The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress is Saturday on the National Mall.
“A President from Hawai‘i” by Kaua‘i pediatrician, Dr. Terry Carolan, explores the birthplace of President Obama and the history and cultural values of the Aloha State. Full color illustrations by Kaua‘i artist and co-author, Joanna Carolan, wife of Dr. Carolan, depict the iconic natural beauty of Hawai‘i. The book comes with an audio CD by Keli‘i Kaneali‘i and Amy Hanaiali‘i, with oli (chants) by Kumu Hula Healani Youn.
Every year one book is chosen by each of the 50 state’s Center for the Book and listed on the National Book Festival map.
