LIHU‘E — Kelli Oride finished with a one-under par to sweep the 15-18 Girls division at the Hawai‘i State Junior Golf Association Junior Tour Series.
Oride, a member of the Kaua‘i High School girls golf program, soared to a 70 on Saturday and ended Sunday’s round at 73 for a one-under par 143 in the 36-hole event. She was the only golfer in the large field to finish with an under-par score.
Cassy Isagawa of Maui finished Sunday’s round a stroke off Oride’s pace at 74 for second place at 157 (83-74).
The HSJGA Junior Tour Series is comprised of three tournaments played over two days. Day 1 is considered one tournament, Day 2 is another tournament, and the combined Day 1 and Day 2 scores for a 36-hole is the third tournament.
Keegan Loo was tied for second, one stroke off the pace, Saturday, but faltered to a five-stroke deficit Sunday to finish in third place overall (79-82-161) in the 11-12 Boys class. Jino Sohn (78-75-153) and Taisei Negishi of Hilo (79-75-154) filled in the leaders for that division. Keith Jose of Kapa‘a (103-113-216) finished seventh.
Naea Oda was tied for second at 88, Saturday, but could not keep up with Kristin Le of Aiea and Keilyn Ing of Honolulu, Sunday. Oda (88-95-183) finished third in the 11-12 Girls below Le (84-80-164) and Ing (88-92-180).
Reyn Morioka (82-78-160) and Pono Tokioka (83-77-160) finished in a tie for fifth place in the 13-14 Boys class that was won by Kalena Preus of Honolulu (76-73-149). Braeden Robley (79-86-165), Kai Adachi (90-80-170), and Ken Miyata (83-87-170) finished eighth and a tie for 10th, respectively.
Taylor Viquelia of Waimea finished with a 161 (80-81) for fourth overall in the 13-14 Girls division that was won by Allisen Corpuz of Honolulu (74-77-151). Daezsa Tomas of Lihu‘e ended in seventh at 173 (89-84).
Levi Miyashiro of Kapa‘a, three strokes off the pace Saturday, finished five strokes behind Alex Chiarella (76-69-145) for third place at 150 (73-77).
Reece Valencia of Lihu‘e finished with a 157 (72-85) for fourth place in the 7-8 Boys division that was won by a Honolulu golfer, Taylor John McGerity (61-80-141).
Milburn Ho of Honolulu was the sole 7-8 Girl competitor, finishing at 180 (84-96).
Rilen Loo (92-93-185) and Logan Gibson (95-97-192) finished in 9th and 10th place, respectively, for the 9-10 Boys class that was won by Kyosuke Hara of Honolulu at 147 (77-70) and Nathaniel Idica of Maui (70-80-150).
Hiilani Alana of Kapa‘a finished third (79-98-177) in the 9-10 Girls division that was won by Kristeena Locke of Maui (55-72-127) and Kristin Miyagi of Honolulu (58-82-140).
Kaua‘i junior golfers now look ahead to the 2009 Atlanta-Kaua‘i Team Challenge that will play on Oct. 8-9 at the Wailua Golf Course in a 36-hole Ryder Cup format competition.
Kaua‘i team members include Sean Mamaclay, Weston Moniz, Miyashiro, Justin Uegawa, Miyata, Morioka, Robley, Tokioka, Keith Jose, Trevor Kua, KC Loo, Bryden Salvador, Oda, Kalau Tanaka-Pessimino, Tomas and Viquelia.
Tee times for the Team Challenge is 11:30 a.m. on both days.
