LIHU‘E —The Kaua‘i High School girls rolled 2,045 pins and the Kapa‘a High School boys rolled 2,230 to take the second week of Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation bowling, Saturday at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center.
Sherri Cubangbang rebounded from her second-place finish to teammate Kelsey Cadiente last week to roll a 545 series over three games to lead the Red Raider ladies to their second win in as many weeks. Cubangbang rolled a day’s high 194 for the girls in her second game.
Cadiente followed Cubangbang’s lead with a 468, Saturday.
Bronte Acosta rolled a 409 to lead the Waimea girls to a 1,824 final for second place, Saturday. She was followed by Arlene Valmoja who finished with 377 and Kathleen Singson added 362 to the effort.
Kapa‘a girls finished in third with 1,722 pins, led by the 402 total rolled by Joanna Chang. Kira Nakamura, coming off the first day of Open Gym at the Bernice Hundley, rolled a 364 after hastily acquiring some socks. Ta‘ashi Napoleon (353) and Reggie McCabe (343) rounded out the Warrior showing.
Island School girls finished with 474 contributed by Samantha Barry and Megan Perius.
The Waimea boys team took the lead in the first game, rolling a 771 to Kapa‘a’s 695 behind a 185 game from James Peleracio.
But Kapa‘a answered with Aaron Belmonte bouncing back from a 126 opening game to a 171 showing, his best of the day, to lead Kapa‘a to a 772-720 Game 2 over Waimea.
That lead stood for the day as Kapa‘a finished by taking the top spot by a mere 21 pins.
The Warrior men’s win redeems their second-place finish last week when Waimea claimed the top berth on 2,128 pins to Kapa‘a’s 2,081 pins.
In the third game, Troy Wong jumped to a 209 game with Randy Iloreta Jr. adding a 161 game to lead Kapa‘a in its 763-718 showing over Waimea.
Peleracio paced the Menehune men with a 485 total, followed by Bryle Rivera (448), Nelson Acosta (429) and Dominic Agmata (425).
Michael Tabata, rolling a 208 in his third game, paced the Kaua‘i boys with a 527 total followed by Brad Russell finishing with a 479 following a strong second and third game where he rolled a 168 and 169, respectively.
Barry Christopher, Kyle Lee, Jayke Manzano and Jason Manzano rolled the Island School boys to a 1,405 total.
KIF Bowling continues this Saturday at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center starting at 2 p.m.
