LIHU‘E — Attorneys outnumbered reporters 17 to two in 5th Circuit Judge Kathleen Watanabe’s courtroom Tuesday in the state courthouse here.
All were gathered for information on settlement agreements regarding James Pflueger’s civil cases involving the deadly breach of the Ka Loko Reservoir over three years ago.
The breach in March 2006 sent millions of gallons of water from an area mauka of Kuhio Highway rumbling towards the ocean, killing seven people and doing millions of dollars in property damage.
The court actions Tuesday involved the civil cases of property-damage and wrongful-death claims and, by mutual agreement, were continued to Sept. 24 to allow all parties to finalize settlement paperwork, according to attorney Bert Sakuda, one of the plaintiff’s representatives.
Sakuda told Watanabe that all parties have agreed on a timetable for all paperwork to be completed.
Pflueger is still facing seven counts of manslaughter in the deaths of the seven people, and that trial date has been set for April 2010.
The bodies of four of the seven victims were never found.
