HANAKAPI‘AI — A hiker sustained non-life threatening injuries near Hanakapi‘ai Falls Thursday afternoon, according to a county press release, and plans were being made to have her airlifted out of the valley.
The woman was hiking near the falls at around 1:29 p.m. when she became injured, the release said.
Rescue specialists from the Lihu‘e fire station and fire fighters from the Hanalei station responded, boarding a Zodiac at Black Pot Beach. They rode the vessel to Hanakapi‘ai Beach, and walked the trail to the injured hiker.
It was determined that the injured hiker should be flown out of the valley via helicopter, and the Coast Guard was contacted for assistance.
