Gary Tada
Gary I. Tada of Lihu‘e died Aug. 19, 2009, at his home at age 68. Born on Jan. 18, 1941, in Lihu‘e, he was retired.
He was preceded in death by his father Satoru Tada, daughter Elizabeth Tada and sister Linda Ueoka.
He is survived by his son Jay I. Tada of Honolulu; daughters Tammy A. Ervin of Lihu‘e and Bonnie Shitabata of Honolulu; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother Lillian Miyake; sister Joan Tada of Palo Alto, California; numerous nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Richard Magyar
Richard Allan Magyar of Kekaha died Aug. 16, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 59. Born on April 18, 1950, in Owosso, Mich., he was the Rescue Helicopter Crew Chief for Priority 1 Air Rescue, Recovery Mission Coordinator for Northrop Grumman and retired Senior Chief, USN.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Frances Magyar and brother Peter Magyar.
He is survived by his wife Ann Magyar and stepson Nate Smith.

Laurice Kawahalau
Laurice Kawahalau of Hanapepe died Aug. 20, 2009, at Straub Hospital at age 35. Born on Oct. 26, 1973, in Hawai‘i, she was a housekeeeper.
She was preceded in death by her father Lawrence Dotimas, daughter Sierra Kawahalau, grandma Anna Lee Abreu and grandfather Antonio Dotimas.
She is survived by her husband Wally “Kai” Kawahalau; daughters Chalani, Cherie and Rochelle “Chelly” Kawahalau; sons Wally Jr. “Kaiboy” and Wailani Kawahalau; hanai daughter Kacee Kanahele; mother Jean Abreu; sisters Sheri (Wesley Kishidi) Apilado, Azua (Kevin Kanahele) Dotimas, Carlie (Winna “Ike”) Kaohelaulii; brother Walter Dotimas; numerous uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Sept. 11, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 to 9 p.m., and again on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery.
Antone Baptiste
Antone “Tony” Baptiste of Kilauea died Aug. 26, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 94. Born on Aug. 7, 1915, in Kilauea, he retired as an electrician with Kilauea Sugar Plantation.
He is survived by his sister, Beatrice (Arthur) Rego of O‘ahu and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at St. Sylvester Church with viewing from 9 to 9:45 a.m., and mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens at 11:45 a.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Baptiste family with arrangements.
Jennie Pereira
Jennie “Loke” Pereira of Anahola died Aug. 19, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 76. She was born on Aug. 14, 1933, in Moloa‘a.
She was preceded in death by her son Philomen, sisters Kau’i and Katherine, and brother Christian.
She is survived by her husband Charles “Blake” Pereira; daughters Cheryle (Victor) Punua and Gloria Rafael; grandchildren Keialohi, Kawehi (Russell) Beckett, Kaimana, Blake Rafael, Kanani (Kia‘aina) Velasco; great grandchildren Victoria and Kamakau Beckett, Kalahikiola and Kia‘aina Velasco; brother Castro Sonny (Irene) Lovell; sisters Diane O’Riley, Priscilla (Mike) Magallanes and Alvina Mills; numerous nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
A celebration of her life will be on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Koolauhui‘ia Protestant Church in Anahola. Visitation from 9 to 11 a.m., service at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be on Friday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m., at Punch Bowl Cemetery.
