NAWILIWILI — OZone commanded a strong lead in the Horse leg of the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Horse and Pony Series, Race No. 1, but a fifth finish in the Pony leg saw the Olson 30 crew drop to second place by a scant two seconds on Thursday.
Based on the PHRF correction, OZone, topping the Horse phase of the race with a 28:39 elapsed sail, finished with a 42:34 PHRF combined sail.
Papa‘au, an Express 27, finished third in the Horse leg on a 31:46, but Colby Curtis, drawing on his Laser experience on O‘ahu, commanded the fleet of ponies, finishing first on a 13:07 elapsed sail for the PHRF combined time of 43:32, just two seconds ahead of OZone. Its 41:13 combined CLUB time gave the crew second place honors in that class.
Fast Company, finishing the Horse leg in second on a 30:04, saw its lead drop as its Pony skipper dropped the lead at the turn to finish second in that leg, resulting in a PHRF combined time of 43:47 for third place.
Bonjolea, an X-342 that was in the running with the leaders, followed with a 44:23 PHRF combined time. A combined CLUB time of 40:14 gave that crew top honors in the Club class.
Lelele, taking the lead at the start, finished in fifth with a PHRF combined time of 46:18 followed by Kalewa at 52:37 PHRF combined.
