KALAHEO — Want to try out your culinary skills using your own personal recipe utilizing breadfruit as its featured ingredient? National Tropical Botanical Gardens is hosting its first “Breadfruit Bounty Cookoff” Sept. 19.
Submission of recipes due no later than Sept. 7. Register a recipe to compete and win a prize.
Entrants may enter a single recipe in one of four categories: appetizer, soup or salad, main dish, dessert. Entrants may enter one recipe per category. Contestants will create the recipe and prepare their dish for judging at the Cookoff.
This event will take place during NTBG’s monthly ‘Ohana Day at the South Shore Visitors Center across from Spouting Horn. The cookoff is sponsored by NTBG’s Breadfruit Institute, which hopes to make this an annual event.
Prizes will be given for first and second place in each category; best presentation and a grand prize. Details and entry forms are available in the announcements section of news.ntbg.org, or can be picked up at the South Shore Visitors Center, or at the Breadfruit Institute’s office at NTBG Headquarters in Kalaheo.
This is the first time NTBG has held a Breadfruit Cookoff on Kaua‘i. NTBG founded the Breadfruit Institute to promote the conservation and use of breadfruit for food and reforestation.
