Myron and Lopaka Kamoku finished first and second, respectively, in Division 1 of the 12th annual Kaua‘i Mini Singles Tournament, Sunday on Kaua‘i.
Myron Kamoku, in finishing first, posted a ringer average of 31.25 percent over Lopaka Kamoku, second place finsher, who ended the day with a ringer average of 34.68 percent.
The tournament was sanctioned by the National Horseshoe Pitchers’ Association with more than 20 horseshoe pitchers squared off into three divisions, said MyrtleMay Kamoku, the HSHPA president and NHPA regional director for Hawai‘i.
James “Kimo” Reigs keeps his record undefeated by clinching the first place honors in Division 2 followed by Noah Texiera improving to five wins, one loss in second.
Daniel Reis topped the Division 3 pitching, keeping his record undefeated, and Cindy Lund settled in second place with a five-win, one-loss record.
MrytleMay Kamoku said Kaua‘i will be the hosting island for the 20th Annual Hawai‘i State Horseshoe Pitching Singles Championships, Sept. 5-6.
“This will be a two-day event with Outer Islanders and our own Kaua‘i horseshoe pitchers competing for King of the Pits, State Champion, 2009.”
Earlier in the month, Ed Constantine and Kim Lindsteadt topped the first group in a fundraising tournament benefiting the Kapa‘a Pop Warner Football Eagles cheer program.
In that tournament, Andrew “Koa” Cabebe and Brian Lawton toopped the second group.
