LIHU‘E — A 25-year-old Koloa man was arrested for drunk driving on Rice Street Monday night after the car he was driving rolled over several times before coming to a stop, a county news release said Tuesday.
Joshua Collins sustained a number of cuts, but he declined medical treatment. His vehicle was badly damaged.
According to a preliminary report, Collins was heading west in a Suzuki SUV on Rice Street at around 8 p.m. and was approaching the Kapule Highway junction when he reportedly swerved to avoid an unidentified vehicle that was making a right turn onto Rice Street from Kapule Highway.
He lost control of the SUV, resulting in the vehicle rolling over several times before coming to a stop in the westbound lane of Rice Street near PS&D.
The Kaua‘i Fire Department and medics responded, but Collins refused medical treatment.
During the investigation, police detected alcohol on Collins’ breath and administered a standardized field sobriety test at the scene.
He was subsequently arrested for OVUII and transported to Police Cellblock.
After posting $250 bail, Collins was released.
