LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Department and the Federal Bureau Investigation extradited a man who allegedly stole thousands of dollars from two Kaua‘i Chevron gas stations, a county press release said.
Eric Bailey, 35, was served with two arrest warrants in Sonoma, Calif. and returned to Kaua‘i on Friday. The former gas station manager was indicted on first- and second-degree theft involving more than $23,000 in cash and the falsification of 104 business records.
He remains at Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center unable to post bail, which was set at $60,000, the release said.
The investigation also revealed probable cause for the arrest of two other station managers, Christopher Bonds and Gail Vinhaca, as well as June Gaines, an assistant manager.
Bonds, who allegedly stole more than $34,000 in cash and falsified 52 business records, was apprehended by the FBI in Ohio, and is currently awaiting extradition, the release said. His bail is set at $50,000.
Vinhaca, who was arrested for allegedly stealing more than $34,000 in cash and falsifying 270 business records, remains in KCCC, unable to post bail, which was set at $6,000, the release said.
Gaines, who was arrested and charged with theft of more than $12,000 and falsifying business records, was released after posting $60,000 bail.
Assistant Chief Roy Asher, head of the Investigative Services Bureau, acknowledged Det. Paul Applegate for the work he did on this case.
“Paul recently completed the specialized training for white collar investigations and he did an outstanding job on this investigation,” Asher said in the release, adding that the department intends to continue to crack down on these types of financial fraud complaints.
