KALAHEO — Kathleen Cadiente finished with a game-high 12 points, but the effort came up short for Kaulupono, which suffered a 29-27 loss at the hands of the Kapa‘a Titaz who were led by Mahea Hanie-Grace netting eight points, Thursday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Ash-lyn Lee and Justine Holt each added six points in the win.
Joining Kathleen, sister Kelsey Cadiente, who masterfully came up with a jersey just before game time, finished with six points.
Jessie Aki, recently returning from a basketball camp on the Mainland, led the Gee’s Angels with a game-high 13 points in its 39-32 showing over Waimea in the second of two Girls 18 and Over game played.
Lehua McCabe added a dozen points to help Aki’s efforts for the Gee’s Angels.
Jayme Jacinto topped the Waimea scoring with 10 points followed by Brandee Victorino and Cheyanne Duarte adding eight and seven points, respectively.
Karen Matsumoto, coordinator for the KYBA, said a girls team from Washington state will be playing in a series of goodwill games with the Girls 18 and Over division, and a schedule of those games will be firmed up, shortly.
Hanakila, rebounding from a Wednesday loss to Kalepa Hillsiders at the 2009 Merv Lopes Kaua‘i Hoops Classic, took revenge with a 48-29 win over the Boys 14 Under Hanama‘ulu-based club at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center.
In an earlier game, the G-Unit A took a 2-0 forfeit over the G-Unit B after the B Unit could only field four players.
In an exhibition match that followed, Leevi Bethel finished with eight points for the G-Unit A while Una Masaniai and Steven McCabe each netted six points for the G-Unit B.
Kala Kauhane topped the court with a game-high 16 points for Hanakila followed by Marlon Cudiamat lending nine points for the Kilauea win.
Kerwin Morano and Kevin Esteban finished with 10 and eight points, respectively for Kalepa.
With the results of Thursday’s games, Hanakila finishes regular season play 8-0 for the top seed with 229 points allowed and 356 points scored.
The G-Unit B enters the playoffs at Kapa‘a High School this Saturday with a 5-3 record (200 PA, 250 PF) as the No. 2 seed followed by the Kalepa Hillsiders (4-4, 275 PA, 309 PF), the G-Unit A (2-6, 322 PA, 196 PF) and Team Central (1-7, 326 PA, 241 PF).
Championships for the Boys 14 Under is Tuesday at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center starting at 6 p.m.
