Kaua‘i residents Dr. Carolan and Joanna Carolan will host a book signing of their latest release, “A President from Hawai‘i,” at 11 a.m. Saturday at Borders Books and Music.
The book presents the birthplace of President Obama and explores the unique values of growing up in the 50th state. Full color illustrations by local artist Joanna Carolan, wife of Dr. Carolan, show the vibrancy and beauty of Hawai‘i. Advance copies will be available for purchase exclusively at Borders Saturday.
Dr. Carolan and Joanna Carolan will be joined by award-winning recording artist, Keli‘i Kaneali‘i. A founding member of the music group Hapa, Kaneali‘i contributed the sound track for the audio CD which comes with the book. He will perform some of his original songs and an original instrumental arrangement he composed entitled “Obama Mele.”
“A President from Hawai‘i” teaches children about the history, cultural values and language that are unique to the Aloha State. Photographs of President Obama as a child in Hawai‘i together with original artwork, historic and contemporary photographs are combined in collage-style.
The audio CD is narrated by Hawaiian recording artist, Amy Hanaiali‘i, winner of 12 Na Hoku Hanohano awards and three-time Grammy nominee.
Dr. Carolan has written six other highly acclaimed children’s books, all of which have Hawaiian themes and are illustrated by Joanna Carolan.
