MyrtleMay Kamoku and Howard Kamoku of Anahola combined with Joseph Koko of Anahola and Cindy Lund of Kilauea in capturing class titles at the State Doubles tournament.
The pair of doubles teams from Kaua‘i earned State Class Doubles Champion honors, but the big win, the State Doubles Champions, went to Enrique Madre and Luci Hopp of the Big Island who finished with an undefeated 9-0 record and team ringer average of 40 percent.
That took place once the class champions were determined and squared off for the State Doubles Championships featuring 10 teams making the playoffs.
The Hawai‘i State Horseshoe Pitchers’ Association hosted the 2009 State Doubles Tournament over the July 4 weekend in Waimanalo, O‘ahu, where 22 teams were equalized into four classes.
Roland Kauwelo and Bobo Mauricio of Barber’s Point, O‘ahu, were crowned the fourth state class doubles champion.
“It was an outstanding State Doubles Tournament,” said Kamoku, the HSHPA president/NHPA regional director-Hawai‘i. “Congratulations to all the state Doubles Class Champions, and we applaud the State Doubles Champions of Hilo.”
