All friends and supporters of PMRF are invited to attend the free event at the PMRF Command Softball Field.
Capt. Aaron Cudnohufsky, the commanding officer of PMRF, will be on hand to welcome the public and speak on the importance of Independence Day, states a PMRF release.
Ugli Stick, arriving at PMRF from the Mainland courtesy of Armed Forces Entertainment, will be one of the featured entertainers offering a blend of pop, funk and hip-hop music.
That band will join two local bands, Rock Candy and The Greenstone Project.
Rock Candy is an all-female rock band and The Greenstone Project offers island music.
A beer garden, food vendors, games and crafts booths will be available throughout the event, and a special booth will be available to process applications for PMRF’s MWF Guest Card program.
The MWR program allows cardholders to access PMRF recreation areas for surfing, fishing and swimming.
It also grants entry to Shenanigans, PMRF’s beachfront bar and grill.
The highlight of the Stars & Stripes Freedom Celebration will be a 12-minute fireworks display that will start at approximately 8:30 p.m. courtesy of Hawai‘i Explosives & Pyrotechnics.
Guests to the family-oriented event are asked to enter the base through the housing gate at mile marker 30. Signs will be posted on Kaumuali‘i Highway to help motorists with directions.
Free parking will be available on base with more than 20 spaces dedicated for handicapped parking. PMRF officials remind visitors that all vehicles will be subject to search and no outside food or beverages, pets, coolers, backpacks, knives, weapons or personal fireworks are allowed.
Major’s Bay recreation area and Shenanigans will close at 1 p.m. to allow for the event setup.
