PUHI — Your hours have just been reduced. Worse yet, you might have had your job terminated.
“We don’t want to see people having to leave Kaua‘i because their jobs and careers have been affected by the economic downturn,” Rhonda Liu, the outreach counselor at Kaua‘i Community College, said in a recent interview.
KCC will be starting a new program aimed at adult learners 25 to 40 years old who may be contemplating a new career or considering returning to school because of the economic situation, she said.
Starting today, KCC will be at Kukui Grove Center from 9 to 11 a.m., Liu said. KCC representatives will have information available on how anyone can return to school.
In addition to the Saturday appearance, KCC will be at Kukui Grove on June 20, July 25 and Aug. 22.
The appearances at Kukui Grove will be supplemented by the Pau Hana Socials that are open to the public starting Wednesday at the Hawaiian Studies building from 5 to 6 p.m.
“No reservations are required,” Liu said. “People can just come.”
She said the socials are designed to allow people who stop by Kukui Grove for information to get a feel of the campus.
“At the mall, we can tell them about coming back to school, but at the socials, they can actually feel what it’s like to be on campus,” Liu said.
In addition to the social next week, Pau Hana Socials are scheduled for June 24 at the Learning Resource Center, July 29 and Aug. 26, those dates coinciding with the KCC appearances at the mall the previous Saturday.
“We just don’t want our Kaua‘i people having to move away until they explore all of the options available to them, and we’re trying to make it easier for them to realize their dreams,” Liu said.
