Mahabalipuram is an ancient Tamil port town which was swallowed by the Bay of Bengal many centuries ago.
However, there is a small beach resort town there today. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are incredible granite structures all over the place — cave temples, temples carved out of single boulders, huge granite wall panels and even a granite light house on a hill. It is a sleepy little town littered with little art shops, restaurants, granite carvers and beach resorts.
