LIHU‘E — In an effort to increase awareness about housing opportunities on the island, the Kaua‘i Board of Realtors is partnering with the County Housing Agency on the upcoming housing fair, a county news release states.
The two-day event will be held on June 19, 5:30 to 8 p.m., and June 20, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Lihu‘e Civic Center, Pi‘ikoi Building.
“Our goal is to give residents a feeling of hope. We want them to know that despite the economic times we’re in, there are people they can turn to for help with their housing needs,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. in the release. “We are pleased that the Kaua‘i Board of Realtors has joined us in this effort and is taking the lead in this year’s housing fair.”
The mayor also noted that KBR obtained a grant from the National Association of Realtors to help defray expenses for the event.
“Our mission statement is very similar to the County Housing Agency,” said Karen Ono, executive officer of the Kaua‘i Board of Realtors. “We felt that it makes perfect sense for us to collaborate and assist the community with their housing needs, and what better time to do this than June, which is recognized as National Homeownership Month.”
With KBR on board, the topics covered at this year’s housing fair will expand to include the following:
— How to avoid foreclosure and hold on to your home.
— Financing options available for potential homebuyers and renters.
— How to prepare for purchasing or renting affordable housing units that are scheduled for completion over the next few years.
— How the current fair housing laws affect renters and landlords.
— Property management without a licensed real estate agent.
