Kaua‘i Humane Society hosts its annual fundraiser silent auction, Woofstock, to the groovy beat of The Yes Men with 1960 and 70s rock-n-roll 6 p.m. May 9 at Kaua‘i Marriott Resort and Beach Club. Attire from the era suggested, so dust off those bell bottoms and come rock out for the animals.
This annual dinner and silent auction benefit raises funds for the shelter’s pet adoption programs. Over 1000 homeless pets find new homes and over 800 lost pets are reunited with their families every year at KHS.
Kaua‘i Humane Society is the only pet lost-and-found center on the island and offers low cost spay and neuter, ID services as well as educational programs and dog training classes — not to mention the island’s only leash-free park.
The dinner and silent auction is the only fundraiser of the year and every dollar raised stays on Kaua‘i.
Auction highlights include a handmade seascape quilt created by No Nene quilters, an electric bicycle, trip to Vegas, local get-a-ways, golf, dining, fine art, jewelry, pet care services, variety of gift certificates for local services, gourmet dinner for 10 in Freddie’s Dog Park with Mexican chef, Juan Ramirez, and a variety of fine wine including a case of Chalk Hill 2003 Cabernet Sauvigon. There will also be limited edition ceramic tiles with this year’s logo made by Banana Patch Studios and a limited number of tiles from past years.
There will be a brief ceremony celebrating three 2009 “mahalo” awards to community members who have done extraordinary things to help Kaua‘i’s animals and KHS: Linda Russell for her many years of volunteer service leading and building the volunteer program to help Kaua‘i’s animals in need; Roy Constantino for always being there to assist with the rescue of stranded and injured animals on the Pali; Sue Hansen for her dedication and leadership advocating for responsible dog walking on the Kaua‘i Coastal Path.
Tickets are $85 and available at the shelter or the Kaua‘i Humane Society thrift shop in Lihu‘e. Table sponsorships for $1,500 and $5,000 will be accepted until 5 p.m. today for inclusion in program and recognition. Donations are still being accepted.
