KAPA‘A — Kawai Peahu scored eight goals as the Devils topped Da Eh Team 9-2 to capture the Kaua‘i Inline Hockey Association Bantam Division championship last night at the Kapa‘a New Park rink.
Trevor McCracken of Da Eh Team scored the game’s first goal with 15:58 to play in the first half, but Peahu responded just 51 seconds later to even the score. He then notched three goals in the half’s final 4:08 to give the Devils a 5-1 lead at halftime.
McCracken picked up a two-minute boarding penalty late in the first half, after which Da Eh Team seemed to have difficulty regaining any momentum on the offensive end.
Michael Alonzo scored for Da Eh Team to bring the score to 6-2, but the Devils would not allow another goal and Peahu scored his last three goals in the game’s final 3:47, resulting in the 9-2 finish.
Devils goalie Iki Punua faced a strong offensive front all night, but was able to save 34 of the 36 shots he faced.
Goalie Daniel Alonzo saved 31 shots for Da Eh Team.
Edward Punua Jr. scored the Devils’ additional goal and added an assist. Cydney Sitzler played strong defense for the Devils and assisted on three of Peahu’s scores. Marcus Punua and Austin Taylor each chipped in with one assist apiece.
For Da Eh Team, Matthias Davis and Marissa Aceret each assisted on Alonzo’s goal.
Having already lost to the Devils on Friday, Tuesday’s contest was a must-win for Da Eh Team as they tried to stay alive in the playoffs. Had they won, a third matchup would have taken place to decide a champion.
