At 5 p.m. April 4 the Homestead Brass will perform a recital at the Kukui Grove center stage. The band also performs at Kaua‘i Community College Band and Orchestra concerts and at the Regency Retirement Community at Puakea.
Band members include Kaua‘i residents Barry Toy and Sarah Tochiki on trumpet, Larry McCreery on French horn, Michael Brewer on trombone and founder, Tom Beck II, on tuba.
Ranging in age from 19- to 68- years old, these musicians have played in college music groups and continue to do so in Kaua‘i Community College Jazz Band, Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.
“The Homestead Brass was conceived in part to offer performance opportunities such as small ensembles and solos to excelling performers as well as exposing Kaua‘i audiences to brass ensemble music,” said band member and retired band instructor Tom Beck II in a press release.
The group took it’s name from the fact that the members live in Wailua Homesteads.
For this program the band which is usually a quintet, will expand to a sextet and include a conductor on some of its music selections and feature Kaua‘i High School’s senior trumpet player, Donny Albrecht, as a guest soloist.
