HANAMA‘ULU — A fire Sunday evening gutted the kitchen of a three-bedroom Hanama‘ulu home and crept into the bathroom, causing some $30,000 in damages, a county news release states.
No one was at the Hehi Road home at the time of the fire.
Passengers in a car that was driving by when the fire broke out stopped to help.
They called out to see if anyone was in the house and called 911 at around 6:21 p.m.
Firefighters from the Lihue and Kapa’a fire stations and rescue specialists from the Lihu‘e fire station arrived within minutes. The fire was fully extinguished at 6:50 p.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
