Kaua‘i grad Dasha Lagmay and Kapa‘a grad Crystine Ito are a part of the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine tennis team who as of late, have been enjoying a hot streak. The Wahine’s latest victory came on Thursday when Hawai‘i beat No. 74 Washington State, 4-3.
The singles matches finished with a 3-3 split. Hawai‘i’s Sophie Kuboch defeated WSU’s Ekaterina Kamendova 6-3, 6-2, Aglae Van den Bergh defeated Marina Nicolas 7-5, 0-6 and 6-4 and Alyssa Nafarrete defeated Bianca Selaru 7-6 (3), 6-0.
WSU’s victories came when Aleksandra Cekic beat Hawai‘i’s Anja-Vanessa Peter 6-3, 6-2, Elisabeth Fournier beat Melissa Wong 6-1, 4-5, 6-3 and Jessica Gomez beat Lagmay 6-0, 6-0.
The match was decided in the doubles matches with Hawai‘i winning two or the three played.
Peter and Kobuch beat Kamendova and Cekic 8-6, Wong and Nafarrete beat Nicolas and Selaru 8-0. WSU’s lone doubles win came from Gomez and Fournier who beat Ito and Van den Bergh 8-0.
The Wahine have now won their last five straight matches, improving to 7-5 on the season and face the Pac-10’s Arizona today at the UH Tennis Complex.
