HANAMA‘ULU — The grandparents of a 16-year-old female juvenile reported her missing from her Hanama‘ulu home Saturday morning, a county news release states.
Police began an investigation and learned that the juvenile was en route to Oklahoma with stops in Honolulu, Los Angeles and Denver.
Reportedly, she had been in communication over the Internet with a man who purchased a ticket for her to fly to Oklahoma to meet him.
Police contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Airports Division and informed them of the case.
A photo of the juvenile was sent electronically to LAPD, who detained the juvenile upon her arrival early Saturday afternoon at Los Angeles International Airport.
The juvenile was then turned over to California’s Child & Welfare Protective Services and is being held at a juvenile detention facility in Los Angeles.
Arrangements are being made to transport the juvenile back to Kaua‘i.
Kaua‘i police are continuing their investigation of this case.
