LIHU‘E — County officials are pleased to announce the opening of a new HI-5 certified redemption center for beverage containers in Lihu‘e, a news release said Tuesday.
The center is located at 3133 ‘Oihana St. between Hopaco-Office Max and Lihu‘e Veterinary Hospital in the old Lihu‘e Industrial Park.
Operating hours at the facility are noon to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, with no break in services for lunch.
Both residential and commercial loads containing clean and empty beverage containers with the HI-5 label are accepted at the new redemption center.
Customers are advised to sort containers by type — glass, plastic and aluminum — before going to the center and arrive at least 30 minutes before closing.
There are eight other HI-5 redemption centers on Kaua‘i, including: Kekaha, Koloa, Lawa‘i, Nawiliwili Harbor, Lihu‘e, Kapahi, Kilauea and Hanalei.
Kauai Community Recycling Services operates four of the centers including the new Lihu‘e center and the Kekaha, Kilauea and Koloa facilities.
