The Kapa‘a High School girls basketball team, undefeated in the regular season, starts its bid for the state title against St. Andrew’s (9-4) Tuesday night at 5 p.m. at Kalani High School on O‘ahu.
If victorious, the Warriors, representing the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation, will advance to face top-seeded Kahuku (14-1) on Wednesday at the Hawaiian Airlines Girls Basketball State Championships — Division II.
Second seed in Division II is Kamehameha School-Hawai‘i (10-1) with Maryknoll (12-0) getting the No. 3 seed and Molokai (12-0) rounding out the top four slots as the No. 4 seed.
All seeded teams enjoy an opening round bye and will face opponents starting Wednesday in the tournament quarterfinals.
Punahou (11-1) is the top seed for Division I followed by Konawaena (12-0) being awarded the No. 2 seed. Farrington (18-1) and Lahainaluna (14-0) received the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds, respectively.
Other teams participating in the Division II level include University (11-1), Hawai‘i Prep (8-3), Kaiser (11-6), Hawai‘i Baptist (10-5), Kaimuki (13-4) and Seabury Hall (9-3).
Championships for the state tournament is scheduled for Friday with Division II finals tipping off at 5 p.m. and the Division I finals starting at 7 p.m.
