PUHI — Pi‘ina Hoku, translated to mean “stars that rise” would not be celebrating its third year without community support.
The leadership program under Leadership Kaua‘i is just one of the areas that the group works with and Mason Chock, the director of Leadership Kaua‘i, took time to honor one of the donors to the Leadership Kaua‘i program.
Using specially-permitted koa from Kaua‘i and crafted by community volunteers, the first Ilima Papa level plaque was presented to the Anne Sinclair Knudsen Memorial Fund through the Hawai‘i Community Foundation at a special presentation.
Chock said the Ilima Papa level is the highest level and the Anne Sinclair Knudsen Memorial Fund and the HCF is one of five donors who meet the cumulative goals listed in the Ilima Papa category of $50,000 or more.
Alana Brun, marketing director for Leadership Kaua‘i, said the Anne Sinclair Knudsen Memorial Fund has funded Leadership Kaua‘i over the past four years.
“Their ongoing commitment to Leadership Kaua‘i helped launch the Pi‘ina Hoku program,” Brun said in an e-mail. “Leadership Kaua‘i is undergoing its third year of Pi‘ina Hoku and is excited to continue this essential leadership training program geared to educate Kaua‘i’s youth about island issues, values and needs while strengthening their leadership skills.”
The presentation of the Ilima Papa award to the HCF representatives launches Leadership Kaua‘i’s donor recognition program and is part of its annual fundraising campaign to highlight the many donors and contributors who support Leadership Kaua‘i, Chock said.
