HANAPEPE — Ocean Safety Bureau officials on Wednesday closed Salt Pond Beach Park due to the large amount of box jellyfish in the area.
More than 400 box jellyfish have been sighted.
Beachgoers are advised to go to other guarded beaches on the island: Anahola, Hanalei, Kealia, Ke‘e, Kekaha, Lydgate or Po‘ipu.
The city of Honolulu reportedly closed Hanauma Bay due to an influx of box jellyfish. Lifeguards there will decide today if it’s safe to reopen the bay to the public.
