Martin Luther King Jr. Day
7 p.m. Monday celebration
Kapa’a United Church of Christ
The congregation invites all to a community event to celebrate peace. There will be music, readings from Dr. King’s speeches and the work of Mahatma Gandhi. The celebration will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the church, located at 1315 Ulu Street in Kapa‘a.
“Martin Luther King wanted more than ‘an uneasy peace’ for our country,” said Kahu Chris Schwab, pastor of Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church and one of the organizers of the event. “‘An uneasy peace’ is the kind of peace that is based on intimidation, fear and oppression. Dr. King dreamed of, and he worked for a peace that comes directly from the prevalence of justice.”
Pastor Jeannie Thompson, pastor of the host church, Kapa’a United Church of Christ, said that what is equally important is his work was founded on his absolute commitment to non-violence.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information call, 634-5321.
