Registration for the county’s community youth basketball league starts today and continues through Friday, the Department of Parks and Recreation announced.
Boys and girls, ages 12 and 13, are eligible to participate in the program when the league starts its games Feb. 9.
According to Jeff Venzon, a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation girls basketball official, the tentative schedule will have the girls playing on Mondays and the boys playing on Thursdays. Both also play on Saturdays.
Registration for the league will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following neighborhood centers: Kalaheo, Kapa‘a, Kilauea, Lihu‘e and Waimea.
There is a cost of $30 for each participant.
During the KIF soccer games at Hanapepe Stadium, members of the Kaulupono girls basketball program under the direction of coaches Bobby Kamakele and Pedro Saligumba have been selling food as a means of raising funds for its outing in the county’s community youth program.
Kaulupono has gone through several generations of players, some of whom are currently playing with the Waimea High School Junior Varsity and Varsity programs.
