The county Board of Ethics restructured its leadership for next year, yesterday, at the Mo‘ikeha Building.
The board unanimously elected current Vice Chair Leila Fuller to serve as chair for 2009. Current Chair Mark Hubbard will serve as vice chair next year.
Rules prohibit a board member from being chair for more than one consecutive year, Hubbard said.
The board “accepted with regret” the Nov. 21 resignation of board member Terri Miyashiro.
Another vacancy on the seven-member board is expected soon. Board members said Matthew Higa intends to step down at the end of this year.
Mayor Bernard Carvalho, who took office Dec. 1, is currently reviewing potential replacements, according to county spokeswoman Kaui Tanaka.
The mayor appoints board members and the Kaua‘i County Council confirms them.
Higa and board member Christiane Nakea-Tresler were absent from the regular meeting yesterday.
In other business, the board unanimously voted to proceed with its rules and regulations revision. The next step is a public hearing, which will likely be scheduled at the beginning of a board meeting in February.
The next Board of Ethics meeting is 9 a.m., Jan. 8 at the Liquor Conference Room, Mo‘ikeha Building.
