The Lights on Rice Parade starts at 6:30 p.m. today at Vidinha Stadium, then winds it’s way over to Rice Street to end at the Historic County Building.
From 6 p.m. on there will be entertainment at the Historic County Building as the lawn is lit up and the doors open for the indoor displays.
Kmart will provide a free shuttle from their parking lot beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The Kaua‘i Museum annual Christmas craft fair on the grounds of the museum at the corner of Eiwa and Rice Streets begins early. From 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. there will be arts, crafts, decorations, entertainment and food. Outside the museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. revelers can take part in a hands-on activity tent in the courtyard where youth and adults make their own gifts including notecard sets and gourd ornaments.
A bake sale will provide more hand-made gifts and treats, collectibles and silent auction tables. The museum gift shop will be open until 6 p.m. However, museum exhibits will be closed for the day.
Entertainment on the museum front porch takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes Kaua‘i residents Mark Rossi, Haunani Kaui, Fred Aki and his Halau o Halauleo, Troy Lazaro and the Lihu‘e Senior Center.
To accommodate the parade, the Kaua‘i Police Department will close all county streets along the parade route, from 5:45 p.m. to 9 p.m., including — Ho‘olako, Hardy, ‘Eiwa and Rice streets, as well as all feeder roads to Rice Street. Motorists need to seek alternate routes to get to their destinations during the parade. For the safety of pedestrians and vendors at the Kaua‘i Museum Christmas craft fair, there will be limited access through the ‘Eiwa Street entrance behind the museum from 4:30 p.m. on Thursday to noon on Saturday.
