A portion of Rice Street in Lihu‘e will be closed for about two hours this evening.
Due to the holiday festivities surrounding the Kaua‘i Museum and the Historic County Building, motorists are advised to exercise caution in the Eiwa Street area where people visiting the Kaua‘i Museum Annual Christmas Craft Fair will be crossing from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
From 6 p.m. until after the Lights on Rice annual holiday light parade passes, Rice Street from the Ho‘olako Street intersection through the Haleko Road intersection will be closed to traffic. On-street parking in the affected area will also be blocked off to enable spectators to enjoy the event.
Residents and businesses in the affected area are asked to observe the closure for the safety of everyone. The streets will re-open as the parade passes through the areas affected.
Residents living in the Lihu‘e Town House and the Kalapaki Villas are encouraged to watch the parade from the sidewalks fronting their properties.
Additionally, Ho‘olako Street will be closed from Rice Street through the end of the Vidinha Stadium parking lots, or the Ka‘ana Street junction.
The intersections of Halau Street and Oihana Street in the Lihu‘e Industrial Park at Ho‘olako will also be closed as will the Pua‘ole Street intersection at Ho‘olako.
‘Eiwa and Umi streets will also be closed until after the parade passes through.
Residents from the Westside are encouraged to take advantage of the free shuttle service being provided by Kmart from 5:30 p.m.
