The following questions are answered in the video segments. They are in this order:
Question 7. With a slowing economy, what programs might you be willing to sacrifice? (The camera was bumped in the middle of Bernard’s answer. It was unintentional and was corrected as quickly as possible)
Follow up: In reality, programs would have to be cut … how would you secure the workforce?
Question 8. What’s the first issue you would tackle in office?
Follow up: What takes priority: solid waste or the energy plan. (Due to technical error the follow up question was not recorded and for space issues question eight can be found on the end of question 7.)
After a intermission break the candidates began the second part of the debate answering the questions from the audience. Those questions are found below and in order.
1. How would each of you distinguish yourself from each other as a mayoral candidate?
2. What targets would you set to reduce our dependancy on oil imports and your specific actions to achieve those targets?
3. How are you handling NIMBY (not in my backyard) for locating a new landfill?
4. What is your plan of action for increasing sustainable commerce on Kauai. With tourism on the decline, Poipu destroyed, developers stopping construction, now laying people off, how will you turn this around so Kauai can withstand this declining economy?
5. Closing statements.
