Holly Camara passed away peacefully Aug. 31, 2008, at home. She had been courageously battling cancer for 17 months. Holly was dearly loved by so many people. Her life was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Born July 26, 1965, Holly was a teacher at Kekaha Elementary School. An alumna of Kapa‘a High School, class of 1983, she earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Chaminade University and a degree in administration and curriculum development from Gonzaga University.
Holly spent endless hours volunteering with the Kekaha Youth Baseball Association, Waimea AYSO, Kekaha Pop Warner Association and the Kauai Special Olympics.
She is survived by sons Michael and Beau Acoba, mother Millie Ah Hee, father Alan Camara, brother Aaron (Cassie) Camara, niece Aarika, nephew Austin Camara and devoted friend Leroy Nonaka. Holly also leaves behind numerous dear friends throughout the island.
Visitation with the family will begin at 4 p.m. today, Sept. 11, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Kekaha; memorial service begins at 5:30 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.
A private scattering of ashes by the family will be held at a later date.

John B. “Junior” Fernandes Jr. of Wailua, lovingly called “Junior” by his many family and friends, died peacefully on Sept. 7, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 81. Born April 22, 1927, he was a retired purchasing agent for the county of Kaua‘i and a very prominent member of the community.
He is survived by his spouse Marianne “Pauline” (Ornellas) Fernandes. He is also survived by six children: Caleen (Jerry) Kubota, Robbie Fernandes, Annette (Alan) Hashimoto, Larry (Wallis) Fernandes, Anita Fernandes, Stacie (Ismael) Cantu, all of Kapa‘a; grandchildren: Jon-Anthony (Christina) Vidinha, Jennifer (Byron) Tone, Tyler Hashimoto, Paul-Mychal Vidinha, Cody Hashimoto, Kade Hashimoto, Hayley Fernandes, Bryn Hashimoto, Hilary Fernandes, Tayni Hashimoto, Jorey Cantu, Lawson “Small JB” Fernandes, Jaxey Cantu, Majael Cantu, Maceo Cantu and Jabey Cantu; six great-grandchildren; brothers, George Fernandes, William Fernandes, and Stanley Fernandes, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008 at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa’a. Mass will be celebrated promptly at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.
A private scattering of ashes by the family will be held at a later date.
