Happy birthday to Mel Rapozo who got to celebrate his special day in style since he was at the Kaua‘i/Serra high school pre-season football game. Steve Simmons, the president of the Serra booster club, was amazed at the fact that Ralph Suniga of the Kaua‘i High School booster club was doing announcing duty. Steve was so connected, he even knew what was going on with the Serra JV game against a Canadian team, but a 4 a.m. Saturday departure?
Zack Octavio was on duty with American Medical Response, and since Cody Bonilla (his sister is the academic adviser for the Red Raiders) wanted to see the game, there were two ambulances on hand. That impressed Steve as well.
Mahalo to Anita Kaneakua who came up with a supply of farm fair survival food (ono energy bars), and it was still going strong Friday night. The special treat was the Higashi’s cheeseburger that Yukie DeSilva brought over from Kapa‘a.
Mac salad fans, rejoice. Marilyn Yamaguchi (she was one of the Pop Warner honorees) said it’s not a good meal unless you have mac salad, and if you need to believe, visit the Koloa Pop Warner food booth next year at the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau Fair.
Hats off to Paul Pancho and his Kaua‘i Pop Warner league for another great Jamboree. Regular games start Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
