A Waimea man was arrested yesterday near the Star Markets grocery store in Lihu‘e after allegedly breaking into at least one vehicle, according to county officials.
Witnesses called police dispatch at roughly 10:40 a.m. to report a man behaving suspiciously in the Kukui Grove parking lot, then observed him until officers arrived on the scene. The callers provided descriptions of the suspect and his vehicle, a gray Toyota pickup truck.
Hoku Malama Dusenberry-Lee, 18, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
Yesterday Dusenberry-Lee was being held at the Kaua‘i Police Department cell block in lieu of $2,000 bail.
Witnesses said police were at the scene for nearly an hour, and that Dusenberry-Lee was yelling from inside the police vehicle after being taken into custody.
