A handful of Kaua‘i churches prepare weekly meals for the residents of the Kaua‘i Economic Opportunity Mana‘olana Emergency Shelter.
Every Saturday the Immaculate Conception Catholic parishoners provide dinner. The Jewish Community of Kaua‘i committed to sponsor birthday parties for the children of the shelter and Transitional Housing Program quarterly. They began this project in December by providing a Christmas dinner and more recently, threw a party in June.
Another group that has stepped into the shelter’s kitchen is the Interfaith Roundtable of Kaua‘i. On July 20 they sponsored a dinner. Spiritual leaders who are members of the group invite their individual churches to cook once a month.
The shelter can accommodate 19 people per night. All churches and organizations are invited to participate.
For more information call the shelter’s director, Fatima Gaboy at 245-7692 or 245-4077 ext. 232.
