An apparent drowning victim was brought to shore by surfers in Po‘ipu yesterday afternoon before being transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, according to county spokesperson Mary Daubert.
The 60-year-old visitor was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital yesterday evening.
Daubert said that the surfers initially found the man about 50 yards offshore near the breakwater, fronting the hotel on the right side.
The man, a resident of San Jose, Calif., was unresponsive when brought to the shoreline fronting the Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club in Poipu.
The man was taken via ambulance to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His identity will be made known after proper notification as will an official cause of death.
