Dan Spriggs had the right idea for Kapa‘a Elementary School fourth- and fifth-graders … make them earn movie tickets for shooting basketballs during recess. The passes come in handy during summer (last day of school was Thursday).
Over at Elsie Wilcox Elementary School, Joan Fujimura said the kindergarten classes were enjoying a water day with a big inflatable on Wednesday, but the best gig was Annette Hashimoto who got to chaperone the Kapa‘a Middle School honors students who got to go bowling and hang out at the mall.
Speaking of the mall, Mia Ako of the Kaua‘i Economic Development Board said the Robotics Expo is this weekend at Kukui Grove. It’ll be bigger than last year with the University of Hawai‘i College of Engineering people joining the fun.
If you’re looking for stuff to do now that summer is here, Mark Ozaki said the Kaua‘i Police Activities League flag football season starts today, and Fig Mitchell said the Kawaihau Majors Little League is having its playoffs today starting at 9 a.m. at the Main Diamond.
Fig said championships for the Majors is Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 to set the stage for Kawaihau hosting the state Majors tournament later in July.
Hats off to Karen Matsumoto, her husband Steven and son Tab (he even coaches a team) on another great Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association tournament — championships are today at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
