Kori Sakamoto had her Lappert’s crew ready with not just one, but two different flavors of ice cream, and Aaron Furugen didn’t have the benefit of his shave ice helper this year, but was already working on training another for next year.
Kristen Yanagihara was helping at the Gaylord’s booth … mahalo to Russ and Paige Talvi on the great hospitality. Of course, if you didn’t get to see chef Arnold Sales and Joy Jajich create gelato using liquid nitrogen, you missed out.
Ikaika Manaku was thrilled that two of his cousins were helping out at the Taste, and Ed Mizuno of the Sheraton Kauai said the “Dining Out with Chai” (Chaowasaree) show is scheduled to air on Channel 2 in about two months. Stay tuned.
Mahalo to Dennis Wong for that Earthworks’ pig. He said the crews were out since 2 a.m. to prep the two pigs for the 11:30 a.m. opening.
Of course, the Taste is a media event and Pam Brown (she’s a Rotarian, too), Ron Wiley (he was hopping from stage to stage) and Dickie Chang (he was doing his stand-up with Bruce Smalling near the Kauai Marriott booth) were all over the place. New this year, Tim DelaVega was doing the advance work for the Channel 26 crew.
And if you need something to do, check out Mia Ako and the KEDB crew at the robotics expo this Saturday at Kukui Grove. It should be interesting.
