Nobuo Kubota
Nobuo Kubota of Kalaheo passed away May 13, 2008, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 83. Born Aug. 17, 1924, in Kekaha, he was an administrator/director of finance with Kentron, Hawai‘i.
He was preceded in death by brother Takeo Kubota and sisters Michie Tanaka and Matsue Morikawa.
He is survived by wife Yukiko Kubota of Kalaheo; son Keith (Sharon) Kubota of Aiea; daughter Lorna (Steven) Freitas of Kalaheo; grandchildren Jocelyn (Hank) Barriga, Keven Freitas, Sheralyn (Sal) Hernandez, Serene Kubota, Jaclyn (Kihei) Fernandes, Reid Kubota and Shealyn Freitas; six great-grandchildren; brother Yoshio (Judy) Kubota of Waimea; sister-in-law Hisako Kubota; brother-in-law Muggsy Morikawa of Waimea; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, at the United Church of Christ in Waimea; service officiated by Pastor Olaf will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

James Nakagawa
James Kiyoshi Nakagawa of Kalaheo died May 8, 2008, at Queens Hospital at the age of 65. Born Jan. 16, 1943, in Honolulu, he was the owner of Nakagawa Painting Inc. and Kauai Rainbow Paint and Fishing Supply Inc.
He is survived by wife June Nakagawa; son Kyle Nakagawa; and brothers Herbert Nakagawa, Harry Nakagawa and Gilbert Nakagawa.
Memorial services will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, at Kauai Rainbow Paint, 185 Aka‘Ula, in Port Allen. Casual attire is suggested.
James Roberts
James Lawrence Roberts of Hanapepe passed away May 17, 2008, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 69. Born Dec. 9, 1938, in Ottawa, Ohio, he was a measurement systems manager with PMRF.
He is survived by fiancee Sharon Yamagata; sisters Helen Ann (Jim) Brinkman of Napoleon, Ohio, and Katherine (Ken) Rife of Deshler, Ohio.
Friends may visit with the family at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Hanapepe United Church of Christ; service at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Virginia Duterte
Virginia Barino Duterte of Hanama‘ulu died May 17, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 67. Born April 17, 1941, in Lana‘i City, Lana‘i, she worked at Kauai Surf and Westin Kauai as housekeeping, and then worked at 7-11 in Lihu‘e and Tropical Burgers & More.
She is survived by husband Florentino Duterte of Hanama‘ulu; son Marcus Duterte of O‘ahu; brothers Manuel (Irene) Banglos of the Philippines, Joseph (lillian) Barino of Pearl City, Angil (Shirley) Barino Jr. of Maui; dedicated friend Coco; best friends Elsie Takata and Evelyn Molina; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation with the family will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, at Immaculate Conception Church and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. The family suggests casual or aloha attire.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the Duterte family with arrangements.
Anna Bisano
Anna A. Bisano of Kekaha died May 11, 2008, at Kailua Hospice Home at the age of 80. She was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Honolulu.
She is survived by children Cedric Bisano, Kathleen McGarvey and Wally Bisano; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorial service will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha; Mass at 10 a.m. Private internment.

Rosalina Robles
Rosalina A. Robles of Koloa died April 23, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 62. Born Aug. 30, 1945, in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte Philippines, she was a long-time employee at Tip Top Cafe & Bakery. She was also an avid baker, cook, and seamstress.
She was preceded in death by parents Jose and Remedios Agpaoa.
She is survived by husband Bienvenido Robles; daughters Christine Robles of California and Donna Robles of Oregon; son Richard Robles of Koloa; and numerous aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews of Hawai‘i, the Mainland and the Philippines.
Friends may visit with the family at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 23, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Services will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, at St. Raphaels Church in Koloa. Burial to follow at St. Raphaels Church Cemetery in Koloa. Casual attire is suggested.

Omar Latif
Omar (Alakai) Latif of Kapa‘a died April 24, 2008, in Singer Island, Fla., at the age of 36. He was born Jan. 6, 1972.
He is survived by parents Solange and Jim Latif; brother Magdi (Mike) and Sheree Latif of Kilauea; sister Magda Latif-Sterioff and Michael Sterioff of Lihu‘e; sister Mona (Latif) and Mark Hampton of Michigan; sons Isaac and Aaron Latif; sister/niece (siece) Farah Mongeau; nieces and nephews Alex, Dylan, Margo, Paul, Justin, Melissa, Nicholas and Sarah; grandniece Eva; and grandnephew Di Angelo.
Ashes will be buried at a later time.
Ruth Ching
Ruth Aki Ching of Koloa died May 13, 2008, at her home in Koloa at the age of 92. Born July 23, 1915, in Kaua‘i, she was a retired school teacher.
She was preceded in death by husband Francis M.F. Ching; and sons William and Michael Ching.
She is survived by sons Francis Ching of O‘ahu and Thomas Ching of Kapa‘a; daughters Rowena Low of O‘ahu and Sheilah Ching of Koloa; sisters Mary Aguiar of O‘ahu and Theresa Surprise of Florida; brothers Patrick (Yoko) Aki of O‘ahu and Edward (Dilly) Aki of O‘ahu; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo; Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Raphaels Church Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Asako Konno of Koloa passed away May 6, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 82. Born Sept. 7, 1925, in Kapa‘a, she was an office manager with Kauai Refrigeration Service Inc.
She is survived by sons Aaron (Lydia) Konno of Koloa, Ivan (Lolita) Konno of Lihu‘e and Roger Konno of Guam; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Shoichi (Elaine) Takenaka of Kapa‘a; sisters Tokiko Tada of Lihu‘e and Satoyo (James) Kurihara of Lihu‘e; sister-in-law Betty Miyazaki of Koloa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rosita “Rosie” Gamason (Martinez) Newman passed away April 22, 2008, at her home in Boron, Calif., at the age of 72. She was born in Honolulu.
She is survived by husband Richard; sisters Tina (John) Parongao of Kaua‘i, Frances (Paul) Johnson and Arlene (Rodney) Christensen of Colorado; brothers Cris (Marge) Porquis of Colorado and Cezar (Bernie) Fernandez of Honolulu; their families, extended families and friends around the world.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 24, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. with Mass to follow at 10 a.m. All are welcome to come share a story or two to celebrate Rosie’s life.
