Joe Durowsiet netted 4 overtime points to lead the Gee Unit to a 59-53 victory as the 3 G’s Nation league opened its summer league of non-competitive basketball Saturday.
That was one of three games which opened the summer league, the other two contests having the Kapa‘a Warriors controlling TCB, 52-25, and Wailua handing Kaulupono a 54-26 loss.
Durowsiet finished with 6 points in the win, but Basil Walton, netting an overtime pair, topped the Gee Unit scoring with 22 points followed by Davone Florence finishing with 17 points, three coming in OT.
Travis Stine, who played alongside Walton for the Kaua‘i High School Red Raiders during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation high school season, went opposite Walton and also finished with 22 points to lead the Kalepa Hillsiders.
He was followed by Preston Keough netting 10 points and Kila Youn, a Kapa‘a KIF standout, netting 9 points, including four in overtime. John Berales added 7 points, Kila Dettloff netted three, and a pair from Ian Lactaotao rounded out the effort.
Kekoa Prem paced the Warriors’ win with an 11-point showing followed by Spam Lindsey and Duke Pauli each netting 6 points. Tall man Kaleo Cummings finished with 5 points followed by Bryson Gonsalves, Keane Agoot and Thomas Gausphol each netting 4 points in the win.
Austin Simao topped all scorers with 13 points with Lester Alacar adding 6 points in the TCB effort.
Tori Tuttle and Destiny Smith, both KIF standouts for Kapa‘a High School in the girls basketball season, finished with 18 and 13 points respectively to lead Wailua to its victory over Kaulupono.
The Wailua scoring leaders were followed by Chelsie Villatora and Sara Tangalin each netting 6 points followed by Jodi and Jondi Das each contributing 4 points.
Shayna Alop and Vakeesha Lagazo paced the Kaulupono effort with 8 and 7 points respectively, followed by Janessa Grady finishing with 5 points.
The league is coordinated by Cecil Gee and Vonda Aki and features both girls and boys action at either the Kapa‘a High School or Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
