Craft contest call for entries

The craft and baking community can begin planning for the next Farm Fair now. The Kaua‘i County Home Economics Show is scheduled for Aug. 28 to Aug. 31.

A new craft contest featuring fairy tale characters has been added: Stuffed animals or dolls dressed in original hand-crafted costumes to represent a favorite fairy tale. No kits or commercially dressed items are allowed. Fairy tales with more than one character will be entered as one exhibit. Only three entries per person. Characters should be no larger than 18 inches.

The recipe ingredient contest will feature the flavor of coffee. Create a coffee flavored bread, muffin, cake, cookie or dessert. Remember that food requiring refrigeration will not be accepted. A recipe must accompany the entry.

The baking contest will be for muffins in three classes: corn muffins, fruit muffins, or bran muffins. One entry per class per person. Recipe must accompany entry.

Juniors and seniors will be judged together in all contests. Entries will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon, Aug. 28. Also consider entering the preserved foods, clothing, needlework and arts and crafts divisions. Copies of complete requirements, rules and preserved foods judging requirements will be available at the UH Cooperative Extension Services, 3063 Eiwa St., Room 210, Lihu‘e after June 5.
